DNS Full Form: Domain Name System
DNS Full Form is the Domain Name System, which is used to give an alphanumeric name to the IP address. Every website on the internet has a unique IP address even each device that is connected to the Internet has an IP address that connects them with the server. If we want to visit a website, we can simply put its IP address on the search bar so the server can locate that website, but the problem is the IP address comprise of digits which is about 10 digits long, which make it impossible to learn IP address of each network or website. To solve this problem we have DNS, which can map an IP address with an alphanumeric name so we can visit the webpage what we want.
How is DNS working?
When we search for a website on the search bar, we simply send a request to the server to show the content of that webpage if we are authorized person the server show us the content, else not. Before the request goes for the main webpage which we want to see, request go to the DNS Server and at DNS server it translates the domain name with the IP address, so the server could find the correct location of the webpage.
DNS server comprises of 4 servers which act on the request query:
- DNS recursor
- Root Server
- TLD nameserver
- Authoritative Nameserver
DNS recursor: DNS recursor server used to receive the request from the client browser, and it is also responsible for the additional requests to satisfy the DNS query.
Root Server: The root server translates the request domain name to the corresponding IP address.
TLD nameserver: This nameserver is the next step in the search for a specific IP address, and it hosts the last portion of a hostname (For example.com, the TLD server is “com”).
Authoritative nameserver: If the authoritative name server has access to the requested record, it will return the IP address for the requested hostname back to the DNS Recursor (the librarian) that made the initial request.
